The A7 Cycles bike repair shop is named after the renowned Alpine 7 backcountry trail that runs along the summit of the Swan Mountain Range here in NW Montana. Embodying all that is special about our part of the country, the Alpine 7 trail is rugged, physically difficult to access and offers a stunning and emotional experience for those with the fortitude to make the journey.
Personally, I have had my fingers, hands, feet and body at times immersed in the cycling world for the last 21 years. I started working in bike shops in high school and continued while pursing a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of New Mexico. Along the way I managed to race and wrench professionally on the domestic MTB circuit, dabble in road racing and do a little design work in between.
After college, I specialized in the field of power generation and renewable energy ultimately managing a large renewable energy research and development program. I left the corporate world after 12 years to spend more time with my family and to continue to pursue my passion of bikes. I joined RideFast Racing in 2015 as a co-owner and head of engineering. RideFast has continued to grow and provide amazing hand-built carbon wheels and parts to riders around the world.
While living and working in the Flathead Valley for the last several years I have noticed that the repair capacity for bicycles is lacking. Our existing bike shops do an amazing job, but are unable to keep up with demand and many times they are backed up several weeks. Drawing on my collection of experiences, I decided to start A7 and simply focus on bicycle repair. If you find yourself needing to get your favorite steed tuned, fluffed, buffed or otherwise in shape, please contact us.
I came to the cycling world quite a bit later in life, but entered it with maximum enthusiasm! I dabbled a bit in road, gravel and XC racing, but realized quickly that while I enjoyed the challenge, it was being around the people associated with the sport that I loved, not so much the racing itself.
Did I say I jumped in enthusiastically? Any given time you can find me mountain biking, gravel riding, bike packing, or working on skills. Sometimes I stop to fly-fish, and I always prefer to sleep outside. In the winter I ski a fair amount, but will often still be found on a bike - with fatter tires.
I'm also lucky enough to spend quite a bit of time sharing my passion! I am the team director, coach, and GRiT coordinator for the Flathead Composite NICA youth mountain bike team, which allows me to share the stoke with our younger generation. I am also a BICP Level 1 mountain bike instructor and LOVE teaching mountain bike fundamental skills at local clinics and during private/semi-private lessons.
In April 2021, I left my business career after 24 years to become Travis's business partner and a bike mechanic. Life is good, and I'm loving being a bigger part of our cycling community! Come by and see me - I look forward to meeting you at the shop!
The Flathead Valley is a vibrant collection of communities in northwest Montana where a love of the outdoors ties us all together. Flanked by several mountain ranges and close to Glacier National Park, we enjoy year round opportunities to enjoy nature. If you live in the valley or are planning your next bike vacation in Whitefish, Kalispell, Columbia Falls, or Glacier National Park, we can get you taken care of quickly.
Whether you prefer road riding, gravel grinding, flow trail, techy chunder, lift / shuttle access descents, or fat biking on the snow, we have your bike repair and servicing needs covered.
